Coconut Oil – The Many Uses and Benefits
I started taking coconut oil supplements occasionally years ago as a youngin’ when I first learned of the various benefits. Now, I use it as a moisturizer, lotion, eye cream, hair mask, hand cream, mouth wash, oil pull, and (sometimes) cooking oil. Why?
Over a thousand studied have proven coconut oil to be one of the healthiest foods on the planet! Coconut oil contains medium-chain fatty acids (MFCAs) that are easier to digest than long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs) and are quickly converted to energy, not stored as fat, therefore increasing energy. These studies have shown it reduces inflammation, is antibacterial, anti-viral, anti-cancer and anti-fungal, improves digestion and skin, cleans gums and teeth, builds muscle and decreases fat, balances hormones, treats infections and more.
I use and recommend organic, undefined (virgin) coconut oil and/or using these:
Organic so it is free of pesticides…but what is the difference from refined? Unrefined coconut oil has been pressed at a low heat, then filtered. Low heat allows the oil to keep its antioxidants and cancer prevention, anti-aging compounds. Refined on the other hand, has been bleached and deodorized (with high heat). Polyphenols, which act as antioxidants in the body, are damaged by the bleaching and heating process.
Trader Joe’s has these organic, unrefined coconut oil packets – so convenient!
